RESERVE – A new fire station is in the works for the Reserve Volunteer Fire Department after the State Bond Commission approved $765,000 in sales tax bond money to be used for the project.
The new station will be built on Central Avenue, increasing the fire protection offered in Reserve, according to Fire Chief Glenn Bourg.
“It’s definitely something the town needs,” Bourg said. “It’s only going to help us increase fire protection.”
The Central Avenue station will be the fifth in the Reserve area, with much of the $765,000 going to construction of the station and for the purchase of firefighting equipment.
Bourg said that they will not need to purchase a new fire engine for the station, saying they would just shift a few of the trucks around after construction is completed.
The Reserve Volunteer Fire Department currently consists of four stations, including four pumpers, a 75-foot ladder pumper, one heavy rescue unit, one medium rescue unit, one amphibious rescue vehicle, three support vehicles, and twenty-eight members, according to their website at www.reservevfd.com.
The RVFD covers a 38.5 square mile area in St. John Parish.
