Shane Charles Saltaformaggio, 24, of Luling was also arrested and charged with 4 counts of Malfeasance in Office and Introducing Contraband into a Penal Facility.

The investigation was initiated on the pair by the Sheriff’s office Special Investigations Division after information was obtained that Saltaformaggio and Kittles were possibly smuggling contraband into the Correctional Center, which they were both Officers at.

Both Correctional Officers were terminated immediately after arrest each ending their four-year tenure with the department.

During the investigation, which has been ongoing since February, Kittles initiated contact with an undercover agent for the purpose of obtaining $200 as payment for having smuggled cigarettes and marijuana to an inmate in the correctional facility.

Kittles received an additional $300 to smuggle a phone to the same inmate.

Saltaformaggio admitted to smuggling contraband including cigarettes, marijuana, crack cocaine, and ecstasy, into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on several occasions over a seven-month period, according to Champagne.

Kittles’ bond has been set at $75,000 and Saltaformaggio’s bond was set at $150,000, both by Judge Kirk Granier.
