EDGARD – Ferdinand August, 66, a native of Lucy and a resident of Edgard, died March 17. He was the husband of Helena Markey August.
He is survived by his children Damian and Felicia August.
He is also survived by his mother Myrtle Gautier August, siblings Ervin, Lawrence, Rita, Bernadette, Vivian and Delores and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Irvine August and siblings Gale August and Chester August.
Services were held March 23 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment in the church cemetery.
DEBAUTTE
LAPLACE – Anna Belle Landeche DeBautte, 94, a native of Killona and a resident of Good Hope and LaPlace, died March 22. She was the wife of the late Edgar DeBautte.
She is survived by a son Warren DeBautte.
She is also survived by a sister Mildred DeBautte, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Julia Haydel Landeche, daughter Dolores Boudreaux and siblings Melburn, Earl, Alphonse, Nolan, Urbin and Terrace Landeche, Lise Gendron, Claudia St. Pierre and Gertrude Berthelot.
Services were held March 24 at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home Chapel, LaPlace, with interment in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.
GUSS
KILLONA – Mazie C. Guss, 88, a native and resident of Killona, died March 14. She was the daughter of the late Viola Dipamore and Eugene Cannon.
She is survived by her daughter Delores Guss.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Eula Cannon Dillon.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Canaan Baptist Church, Killona, with interment in Mt. Airy Memorial Park Cemetery, Boutte.
Robottom Mortuary of Reserve is in charge of arrangements. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. at the church.
HAYDEL
DESTREHAN – Shirley Ann Negrotto Haydel, 78, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Destrehan, died March 20. She was the wife of the late Lester Joseph Haydel Sr.
She is survived by children and spouses Leslie (Francis) Braud, Valerie (Carlos) Halder, Lester (Paula) Haydel Jr., Dawn (Christopher) Higdon, Richard (Melanie) Haydel, Anne (David) Landeche, Stacey (Russ) Kreller, Michael (Mary) Haydel and son-in-law Peter Tefarikis.
She is also survived by siblings Eulalie Negrotto Montalto and John A. Negrotto, 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Anna Shirley Passanante and Drebing Arlington Negrotto Sr., daughter Sandra Haydel Segrave-Tefarikis and siblings Drebing Arlington Negrotto Jr. and William J. Negrotto.
Services were held March 24 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Destrehan, with interment in the church mausoleum.
JONES
EDGARD – Alfroncine M. Louper Jones, 87, a native of Edgard and a resident of New Orleans, died March 21. She was the wife of the late Bernie Jones Sr.
She is survived by a daughter Lovida Johnson.
She is also survived by son-in-law and daughter-in-law Edward Johnson and Annie Mae Jones Brannon, cousins Morris Alexander, Gladys Smith, Bert Sylvin, uncle Melvin Louper, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Leona Alexander Louper and son Bernie Jones Jr.
Services will be held March 28 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment in the church cemetery.
The Baloney Funeral Home of Garyville is in charge of arrangements. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. at the church.
SMITH
VACHERIE – Irma Raphael Smith, 70, a native and resident of Vacherie, died March 17. She was the former wife of Retired Master Sgt. Warren L. Smith.
She is survived by siblings Brenda (Leroy) Mitchell, Andrew (Geraldine) Raphael, Warren (Mary Jo) Raphael.
She is also survived by sister-in-law Geraldine Ross-Raphael White and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lazarus and Lucille Raphael and a brother Joseph Daniel Raphael Sr.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Phillip Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment in the church cemetery.
The Baloney Funeral Home of Garyville is in charge of arrangements. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. at the church, with at 10 a.m. rosary.
SMITH
LAPLACE – Jeannine Bercegeay Smith, 47, a native of Metairie and a resident of LaPlace, died March 20. She was the wife of Franklin Smith.
She is survived by her daughter Danielle Lambert.
She is also survived by her mother Verlyn Bercegeay, siblings Andre Bercegeay and grandmother Thelma Heltz Bercegeay.
She was preceded in death by her father Charles W. Bercegeay, paternal grandfather Wilson J. Bercegeay and maternal grandparents Melvin D. Tubre and Betty Lovetro Tubre.
Services were held March 24 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment in Garden of Memories.
