LAPLACE-Former councilman Haston “Lipper” Lewis Sr. will return to the council representing District 1 following Saturday’s runoff election.

This race, which was tight on primary day in October, remained a relatively close affair. Lewis, a 12-year veteran of the council, beat newcomer Iona Holloway by a margin of 59 percent to 41 percent. Votewise, that translates to 1,230 votes for Lewis and 855 votes for Holloway.

Lewis plans to make the water, sewerage and drainage system a priority during his tenure as a council member.
