Riverside’s Sarah Levin scored 20 points and grabbed a key offensive rebound with four seconds left to help lead the Rebels to their second victory of the year, 29-28 over Hosanna Christian at home on Tuesday night.

With the Rebels leading by one and at the foul line with four seconds on the clock, Levin rebounded a Rebels’ miss to ice the game.

Riverside (2-5) led 17-12 at halftime, but Hosanna Christian fought back in the second half to close the gap. The Rebels dug in defensively though, and made a number of key free throws down the stretch.

“We pulled it together,” said Riverside Coach Kristy Hebert. “We were a lot more aggressive across the board, both defensively and offensively. We went to the goal much more in this game.”

Last Wednesday, Riverside lost in the second round of the Battle on the Bayou’s Silver Division third place consolation bracket, falling to Fontainebleau, 39-34 at the Alario Center.

Marci Millet and Jessica Price each scored 14 to lead the way for the Rebels.

Fontainebleau led 12-9 at the half, before the scoring increased for each team in the second half.

The Achilles’ heel for the Rebels was the foul line. Riverside missed 15 free throws, which proved fatal in a five-point game.

“The main thing is, we got behind in the first half and we missed our free throws,” said Hebert. “We played really well for them most part, but when you miss 15 at the line in a game you lose by five, it’s a problem.”
