LAPLACE — Current St. John Parish President Nickie Monica said he is ready for his next move up politically, when he decided to run for the House of Representatives District 57 seat.

Apparently the people agree with him.

Monica won a runoff for the District 57 seat in Saturday’s election, defeating Geri Broussard Baloney, as he finished the night with 57 percent of the vote, garnering 7,797 votes.

Baloney had 43 percent on 5,848 votes.

The two had made the runoff during the October 20 primary election, after Monica had served the past eight years as parish president in St. John.

Monica had previously been a parish councilman, and has campaigned on a platform of bringing the same kind of progress to St. John from the state level, as he had done during his tenure as parish president.
