Willowdale survives, emerges with 509-508 victory over Bellemeade

Host Willowdale held on for victory against Bellemeade last Wednesday – by the skin of its teeth.
Leading by five entering the relay portion of the meet, Willowdale saw Bellemeade cut the lead to one, but that was how the night ended. Willowdale earned its third victory of the season, 509-508.
“They closed the gap on us there at the end,” Willowdale Coach Nikki Bordelon said. “It was exciting.”
Willowdale (3-1) took a ten-point lead after the first event, the freestyle series. The lead sustained, growing to 14, 343-329, after the breaststroke. But Bellemeade outscored Willowdale 109-90 to close the gap to five.
David Vial, Tyler Massimini, and Drew Woods each scored three first place finishes to lead Willowdale.
Collin Maise, Brianna Plaisance, Warren Massimini, and Leah Wilson also had multiple first place finishes.
Rounding out the first place winners were Jacob Plache, Stephanie Chester, Bailey Wilson, and Shanon Briner.
Willowdale will host Chateau Country Club today, at 11 a.m., in its final meet of the season.
