Edgard man arrested for allegedly shooting his girlfriend

EDGARD – The St. John Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Edgard man for allegedly shooting his girlfriend in the neck in September of last year.
Police received a tip that Rubin Preston, 32, of 191 Allen Lane in Edgard, was working at a St. John Parish business. Officers arrived at his place of employment and arrested him at the scene.
He was booked with attempted second degree murder and a $100,000 bond.
The incident on Sept. 10 stemmed from an argument Preston and his girlfriend, Tamara Edwards, 32, of Houston, Texas, were having in a 1989 Oldsmobile parked outside of Preston’s home.
During the argument Preston pulled out a black .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun and shot Edwards on the left side of the neck, according to the St. John Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities transported Edwards to the hospital, but Preston could not be found. The St. John Sheriff’s Office has had a warrant out for his arrest since the incident.
