RESERVE — A pair of losses to 5A teams had the Eagles grounded in reality this weekend, but not before the Reserve Christian squad spread their wings a little.

Cedric Jenkins has been a steady scorer for the Eagles as their schedule approaches the final push. He’s averaging more than 18 points per game despite playing in more than 30 games already this season. Last Friday night, he posted a game-high 33 against Brother Martin, but the Crusaders escaped with a 63-61 win.

Eddren McCain also went over the 20 point mark in the effort, hitting his average with 22.

The Eagles had a quick turnaround after this one with a home game on Saturday night against Destrehan where the Wildcats took an early lead and held off an Eagle rally in the second half for a 68-50 win.

Roosevelt Johnson led Destrehan to the victory with 23 points, and helped DHS get a ten point lead in the second quarter which they would bring into the half.

The game started to get away from the home team in the third quarter as the Destrehan defense kept the Eagles from getting into the lane, forcing them to settle for jumpers. Darian White added to that with a buzzer-beating three pointer at the end of the third to make it 47-25.

Reserve Christian was far from spent though, as McCain used a four-point play to get RCS started on a run. Jenkins came up with a three point play before the Wildcats could score again and the Eagles closed the gap to 47-34.and putting the pressure on Destrehan.
