LAPLACE — Two St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies have been fired and one jailed following a perjury allegation, authorities said.
Sheriff Mike Tregre said Cody Malkiewicz was booked today (April 8) with perjury, stemming from false courtroom testimony provided in Edgard on Oct. 9.
Tregre said the case involved defendants Adam Landry and Miranda Davis, who were found in possession of multiple pounds of marijuana resulting from a traffic stop on Interstate 10 on July 12, 2014.
St. John Sheriff’s Office District Attorney investigators met Feb. 3 with St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs investigators at the D.A.’s Office, where details of the perjury were shared.
Tregre said those findings were presented to him, and Malkiewicz was fired from the Sheriff’s Office the next day.
“Also in connection with the same investigation, Lt. Daniel Moldander, the shift supervisor, was terminated for unprofessional conduct regarding the same case,” Tregre said.
The narcotics case has been referred to the Drug Enforcement Agency for prosecution, authorities said.
