The St. John the Baptist Parish School Board recognized West St. John High School Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Laury Dupont at its January meeting. Dupont has announced he is retiring at the end of this school year.

Ann LaBorde, director of personnel and legal counsel, presented Dupont with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the board that noted the many accomplishments in his coaching career, including a number of district championships, play-off appearances and state titles.

Coach Dupont thanked the board and people associated with West St. John High School. He noted that the job of head coach was not an attractive position when he first accepted it many years ago, but that hard work and much support from his staff and colleagues allowed him to build a first-class program.

The board accepted Dupont’s resignation and will advertise for his replacement in the coming days.
