Riverside’s Heidi Garcich and Kaci Simon each scored goals on Friday, but it was not enough for the Lady Rebels to overcome district foe E.D. White, who notched an 8-2 win at E.D. White.
“E.D. White is a very good, well-coached team,” said Riverside Coach Daniel Waguespack. “Our girls played very well, and we were able to finish strong with two quick goals against a strong team.”
Garcich split time at two positions during the game, starting at goalkeeper for only the third time this season before moving to offense.
“Heidi had a really good game for us in the goal, she made a lot of saves,” said Waguespack. “(E.D. White’s) coach even complimented her on how she played there.”
E.D. White led 4-0 at halftime.
With the Rebels (2-8) only slated to lose one senior starter entering next season, Waguespack is optimistic that the experience the Rebels’ young players are garnering will only improve the team’s standing next season. Some are on the very young side – four seventh graders earned playing time for Waguespack against E.D. White.
“I’m really seeing a lot of improvement through the whole team,” Waguespack said. “These kids will only get better with playing time. We’re just focused on getting better and building it up.”
