Cedric Jenkins’ tied a school record by making 13 3-pointers and scored 55 points as Reserve Christian went on the road and trounced district foe Grand Isle on Thursday, 120-65.

The Eagles’ Tweety Carter had sole possession of the feat until Jenkins’ red-hot shooting performance last week.

“It’s a huge accomplishment for any high school player to score 50 points in a game, obviously,” said Reserve Coach Timmy Byrd. “It’s not often a kid gets in that type of zone.”

Eddren McCain wasn’t bad himself for Reserve (29-8, 3-0), notching a triple-double in which he tallied 11 points, 16 rebounds and 22 assists.

“Eddren played a great game himself,” said Byrd. “He recognized that Cedric had the hot hand and he did a great job getting him the ball.”

The Eagles wasted no time in seizing control of the game. Reserve led by 12 after a quarter, and extended its lead to 54-29 at halftime.

The Eagles scored no less than 26 points in any quarter and actually peaked in the fourth, scoring 35.

Grand Isle attempted to push the ball and play at a fast pace for much of the game – trying to beat the Eagles at their own game.

“They probably played into our strength,” said Byrd. “They wanted to play up-tempo, in an up and down game.”

Chris Roussell scored 27 for Reserve. Kyle McClue and Lucas Martin each added 10.

The game was the make-up contest, after the team’s original playing date was postponed on Jan. 18.

McCain’s triple-double was his second of the week, after he and the Eagles avenged an early season loss to Rummel on Tuesday. Reserve toppled the hosting Raiders, 81-74.

McCain scored 30 points, and hauled in 11 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Eagles to the win. Jenkins scored 26, while Roussell added 12.

Reserve led throughout much of the game, leading by seven at halftime, and rarely saw its lead dip below that mark.

In the last meeting between Reserve and Rummel (14-11, 1-2), on Nov. 29 at the C.Y.O. tournament, the Eagles were missing an injured Jenkins. This time, his presence paid off.

“He made a big difference,” said Byrd. “And our kids played very well defensively. We did a good job inside.”
