6’5 freshman Donald Thomas scored 42 points to lead Reserve Christian over District 10-C opponent Holy Rosary on Tuesday, 104-37.

The Eagles (5-3, 3-0) led 28-3 after a quarter and did not score less than 23 points in any period.

Thomas scored in every which way for Reserve — from the perimeter, in the paint, from the foul line, and via his mid-range jumper.

Color Coach Timmy Byrd impressed.

“He’s a kid that’s been a point guard for most of his life, and he’s run into a growth spurt in the last year and a half,” Byrd said. “He was really active for us. He got a lot of rebounds, and probably scored 14 points on hustle alone around the basket.”

The highlight might have been a scoring spurt in the second quarter, in which Thomas was 4-for-4 from behind the 3-point arc.

“He was unconscious for awhile there,” said Byrd.

T.J. Scott and Willie Green each scored 13 for the Eagles.

For the second time in as many games, Reserve elected to sit their regular starters, something Byrd says should help the team recover from a variety of smaller injuries.

“Our practices have been so tough, we’re a little banged up right now,” Byrd said. “We’ve got some really tough games coming up.”

Indeed, this coming week the Eagles are set to play some of the best teams the Baton Rouge area has to offer in Christian Life, and potential tournament battles with Glen Oaks, Istrouma and Woodlawn.

First will be Christian Life on Monday night, at Christian Life. Last season the Eagles beat CLA at the Eagles’ Nest, but the defending Class 1A champions will be looking for payback behind Langston Galloway, touted by many as the top junior prospect in Louisiana.

“Eight colleges are going to have someone out there to watch. There will be a lot of prospects on the court,” Byrd said.
