For the second straight season, all eight River Region teams have qualified for the state football playoffs, and official seedings were established on Sunday.

Five River Parish teams will host a playoff game in the bi-district round — Destrehan, St. Charles, St. James, Lutcher and West St. John. Riverside, East St. John, and Hahnville all open on the road.

In Class 5A, undefeated Destrehan earned a No. 2 seed, and will open up its state title defense with a game against No. 31 Jesuit (5-4, 2-2 — third in District 9-5A).

Hahnville is seeded at No. 20, and will travel to district rival Dutchtown (7-2, 3-2 — tied for second in District 5-5A), the 13th seed, for the second time this season — Hahnville won a wild double overtime battle in the first meeting between the teams, 49-48.

East St. John earns a No. 27 seed in large part due to a brutal schedule, and its playoff season will begin exactly how its regular season started — with a trip to Acadiana (8-1, 3-1 — second in District 2-5A), the tournament’s No. 6 seed. East St. John fell at Acadiana, 28-21 in the Wildcats’ first game of the season.

West Monroe is the top seed in Class 5A.

In Class 3A, St. Charles earns the highest spot among local teams with a No. 4 seed. The Comets will host No. 29 Rayne (5-5, 1-3 — fourth in District 5-3A) on Friday night. Lutcher isn’t far behind the Comets, earning a No. 6 seed in the tournament. The Bulldogs will host former district foe E.D. White (4-5, 3-1 — second in District 7-3A), the No. 27 seed.

Notre Dame is the top seed in Class 3A.

The district rematches continue in Class 2A, as No. 3 St. James will host 10-2A opponent Fisher (4-5, 0-4 — last in District 10-2A), the No. 30 seed. St. James won the previous meeting between the teams, 28-8.

Riverside earned its spot with a win on Friday night over those same Fisher Gators, and are seeded 26th. The Rebels will travel to face No. 7 Many (9-1, 4-0 — champions of District 9-1A).

John Curtis earned the top seed in Class 2A.

Finally, West St. John carries its five game winning streak and newly won district championship into the playoffs, just like last year. The Rams, a No. 15 seed, will host No. 18 Basile (5-4, 5-0 — champions of District 5-1A).

South Plaquemines earned the top seed in Class 1A.
