God is faithful, and gives you the desires of your heart

Last week, I received a brochure in the mail that reminded me of my age, but not my condition. It started with “Harold, you can regain the freedom to enjoy life again.” It continued with, “Our free mobility consultation shows you how!” It was from the Scooter Store.

The picture on the cover was of a man sitting in a motorized scooter, holding a fishing kit, with his grandson walking alongside of him carrying a rod and reel.

A few weeks ago, another reminder of my age was an invitation to visit a store that sold hearing aids.

I’m 74 years old and I have to admit that life is going by fast, by I thank God I’m in fairly good health. I exercise at least four times a week, stay active in many activities, and, especially, enjoy keeping up with my grandchildren without the help of the scooter store.

My hearing isn’t bad either; in fact, I wish I didn’t hear what some of the people say when I’m within hearing distance.

With that said, I will admit that I often think of how short life really is. I thank God that I’ve had an exciting life and expect to continue enjoying it to the end.

Speaking about the end, many years ago, my friend, Danny Louque, asked me if I worried about getting old and, maybe, getting sick and suffering before I died. I said, “No, that won’t happen to me.” He said, “How do you know?” I answered that God gives you the desires of your heart and my desire is to pass away quietly, without any physical struggle. Besides that, God knows that I’m “chicken” and that I don’t like too much pain.

Do I really believe that? Without a doubt, because God is a faithful God and gives us the desires of our heart.
