Sometimes God’s ways are not so mysterious

I’ve had the privilege of laboring in God’s ministry of Get High on Life since 1980. It’s not unusual for people in ministry to struggle, financially, from time to time.
That was the case for me 12 years ago about this time of the year. I remember waking up about 2 o’clock one morning, tormented about my finances and telling God, “If I am not doing Your will, I’m ready to go home.”
Two days after, a lady from Cape Girardeau, Mo., called me early in the morning and asked if I remembered her. After refreshing my memory about a meeting we had at Shoney’s four years prior, she asked if I was still working with Get High on Life. I told her I was and she said, “As I was praying this morning, God told me you needed some money.” Because of my pride, I told her that I didn’t need any. She then said, “I know when God speaks to me and, regardless of what you say, I’m sending you a check.” Three days later, I received a check for $3,000.
Two years later, the same lady sent me a check for $10,000.
Three months after receiving the $3,000 check, a lady whom I had helped with an alcohol problem was at a halfway house in Bogalusa. I knew she was having a rough financial time, as she was working part-time while at the halfway house. In spite of that, she sent me a card and inserted a $100 bill with these words, “God just wants you to know that He is opening the window to your financial freedom.”
Her name is Lillie Hayes. She is now living in Baton Rouge and has celebrated 12 years of sobriety. Six or seven times a year, she and some of her lady friends journey to Mandeville on a Saturday night to visit Fontainebleau Treatment Center, where she first went to get sober. She sings a song to the clients titled, “You’re Just Right for a Miracle.”
I am sure some people will have a hard time believing the financial miracle God performed in my life. My only reason for sharing this testimony is to let people know that God is faithful. He is still in the business of performing miracles to bless people so that He can be glorified.
Jeanne and I continue to be blessed by many faithful supporters, and for their unselfishness, we will be forever grateful.
