Reynaldo Young homered and Torri Zeno stole five bases as East St. John pounded out a 13-2 10-run rule victory over H.L. Bourgeois on Tuesday.

“It was the first complete game we’ve played all season,” said ESJ coach Ryan Sims. “Hitting, pitching, and defense all together. We hadn’t brought all three facets of the game together until now.”

Lionel Weston earned his first win of the season on the mound. Weston (1-1) pitched all five innings and allowed only one hit. He walked four and struck out six.

Young finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Wildcats.

East St. John (4-4-1) scored in each inning of the game. Holding a 2-0 lead in the third inning, the Wildcats broke free, scoring 11 runs in the last three innings.

Trailing 13-0, the Braves (2-8) mustered two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn’t stave off the 10-run rule.

“All of our guys stepped up. Our runs and RBIs were spread around,” said Sims.

The win came off of a weekend in which ESJ went 1-1-1 at the Grace King/Bonnabel tournament.

The Wildcats fell in their first action of the tourney Thursday to Northlake Christian (7-1), 8-7, in six innings.

Zeno was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Not interested in starting a losing streak, ESJ stormed back Friday to knock off East Jefferson (1-8) 16-7.

Jordan Wetzel (1-0) went three innings and allowed six runs.

Reynaldo Young was 2-for-4 with a home run. Shane Nicholson went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Zeno stole four of ESJ’s nine stolen bases.

“We had it going all day long,” said Sims. “We were 9-of-10 in steals, so being aggressive worked out for us.”

The Wildcats concluded the tournament by tying Fisher (6-2-2),4-4, in six innings.

Andre Simmons was 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Ashton Lewis and Bryton Trepagnier combined to throw all six innings in the game.

While Trepagnier is entrenched at the top of the rotation, he came on in relief of Lewis, who was the third starting pitcher of the weekend for ESJ.

“We’re trying to develop our whole staff,” Sims said. “We know that’s the key for us though. Our pitching and hitting will determine how well we do in district. We have to sort that out.”
