LAPLACE – St. John Parish authorities announced Wednesday that a sheriff’s deputy who was suspended without pay last month during an internal investigation into a citizen’s complaint has resigned from the force.

Deputy Pedro Luna, a crime scene investigator and 12-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, resigned on Oct. 30, said Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

Luna had been suspended without pay since late October while the Sheriff’s Office investigated the complaint filed against him. Clement said the investigation revealed Luna had violated the Sheriff’s Office code of conduct.

Clement said Luna would be on suspension until the matter was fully resolved, but he resigned as the investigation continued.

The Sheriff’s Office did not reveal the specific nature of the complaint. Clement said the infraction was not a criminal violation.
