New friends are everywhere

Thursday morning, as I was walking out of the bank, a lady was just ahead of me. As she approached the door, I hurried and said, “I’ll get it.” She said, “Thanks!”
I then opened the next door leading to the parking lot. She said, “You must like to open doors.” She quickly added, “My husband used to do that for me. He died in January and I really miss him.” I asked how long that had been married. “Forty-six years,” she answered. “He must have been a good man,” I said. “He was a very good man,” she responded.
I asked her if she would mind if I prayed for her and her family. “I don’t have any family. We moved to LaPlace after Katrina. We were living in St. Bernard, and our house was completely destroyed by the water.”
We prayed for God to complete the healing process after her loss and to give her a peace that surpasses all understanding. I asked God to bless and protect her.
After we prayed, she asked if I was a minister. “I don’t have a church. I am a Christian with a program that ministers to lonely and hurting people.”
She had beautiful gray hair and I told her
how pretty it was. She smiled, and as she opened the car door, I noticed a young lady on the
driver’s side. She introduced me and told me
how she had been a good friend since she
moved to LaPlace. I told the young lady that God would bless her for being available to a friend in need.
As we parted, I told her that I would write an article about our meeting. “Look for it in the Saturday issue of the L’Observateur,” I said.
My wife always accuses me of talking to everyone I meet. I plead guilty and thank God for the people He puts in my path on my journey to eternity.
