St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with “celebrity” readers, “Cat in the Hat” cakes and hats, green eggs and ham, raffles and assemblies.
Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss.
Teachers, librarians, community members, business leaders and employees, politicians, parents, grandparents and others brought reading excitement to children of all ages by serving as readers for the day.
The purpose of Read Across America is to motivate children
to read. Research has shown that reading is an important factor
in student achievement and in
creating lifelong successful
readers. It has also shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.
