DONALDSONVILLE — Class 2A No. 5 Donaldsonville built a big first half lead on its way to a 30-0 victory at home over West St. John.

The Tigers scored 12 points in each of the first two quarters. Donaldsonville took advantage of six Rams turnovers.

“We didn’t play well,” said West St. John coach Robert Valdez. “Six turnovers … you can’t play that way against a program like this. We had drives, but we couldn’t sustain them or hold onto the ball. And we’ve got to get it right, and soon.”

Out of Donaldsonville’s spread attack, quarterback Devon Breaux threw for 183 yards and three touchdown passes, one each to Titus Howard, Drew Rosmond and Jarrett Cole Trey Brown led Donaldsonville in rushing with 77 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Donaldsonville (4-0) totaled 294 yards of offense.

Valdez acknowledged that his Class 1A squad has faced some stuff competition — Donaldsonville was the fourth ranked foe in a higher classification that WSJ (1-3) has faced since its jamboree loss to Riverside — but that his expectations are higher than what he’s seen so far.

“Are we playing good teams? Sure. But I expect for us to get better each week. Tonight, we didn’t get better at all. You can’t spot a good team the mistakes that we did.”

Jarius Moll led WSJ statistically with 66 yards on four catches. WSJ finished with 161 yards of offense.
