Edward John “Chomp” Arceneaux Sr. passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at St. James Parish Hospital. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and a member of both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He was the owner-operator of a service station and a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Convent, the VFW and American Legion Post in Lutcher.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Marie Chauvin Arceneaux; three children, Edward “Butch” Arceneaux Jr., Jeffrey Arceneaux and wife Mollie Louque and Marilyn A. Waguespack and husband Ivy of Convent; six grandchildren, Jennifer Waguespack Murray and husband Jamie, Brad Waguespack and wife Heather Morales, Devon Waguespack, Luke, Lindsey and Laynie Arceneaux; five great-grandchildren, Lauryn LeBoeuf, Peyton Murphy, Collin, Alex and Brennan Waguespack; and special friends, Kat and Fred Alleman, Margie “Poon” Chauvin and Paulette and Robert Havard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Joseph Arceneaux and Nellie Hebert, eight brothers and a sister. Visitation was held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Convent on Monday, Nov. 15, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Mark Beard. Military honors were performed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Convent.
