LUTCHER – The Krewe of King Cruisers Motorcycle Club announced the recipients of their second annual Outstanding Community Service Awards on Jan. 22 at the King Solomon Baptist Church in Lutcher.

The Outstanding Community Service Award honors people within St. John and St. James parishes that contribute to the community and are committed to making life better within it. The five recipients of the award were: Lois Jones (not present), Danny Scott accepting for the King Solomon Baptist Church, Ralph Patton, Ken Brass and Roxie Baptiste.

Recipients were selected by nomination via survey. The survey was e-mailed to 1,700 people within St. John and St. James parishes and inquired about their quality of life, thoughts on the community, how to make life better and people they know who are making a difference in the community. The data collected from the survey was used to select the recipients of the award. Further use of the data includes the development of a community plan that will be proposed to parish officials. The club also plans to follow up with the community to ensure progress.

The awards will be officially distributed at the Krewe of King Cruisers second annual Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the St. James Boat Club in Paulina. All proceeds will be used on programs to benefit the community.

“It’s a party with a purpose,” said spokesman Carl Henry.

The King Cruisers Motorcycle Club was founded by Gerald Henry in 2008. It is a nonprofit organization that strives to help and assist people in the community.

“We don’t want to be an average motorcycle club,” said Henry. “We want go out into the community.”

The King Cruisers Motorcycle Club is dedicated to providing support for the community through various programs such as a back to school program, bonfires, food drives and a school adoption program in which the selected school rotates yearly. According to Henry, the club hopes these events will raise social awareness, get people involved in supporting the community and potentially increase the club’s size.

Club members include: Keith Rixner, Mervin Douglass, Gerald Henry, Lloyd Ferdinand and Carl Henry.
