With faith there is no fear

President Franklin Roosevelt challenged all Americans during the darkest days of World War II with these words, “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
Today, the world and national news are not very encouraging. The economy is in a slump, unemployment has been up and doesn’t show any signs of improving, and in the Middle East we have wars and rumors of wars.
All this negative news shouldn’t surprise Christians. The Bible says these things are nothing new. The world has always experienced some kind of turmoil. As Christians, if we daily focus on the negative information that faces us each day, our lives will be overshadowed with doubt, worry and fear.
I can understand people without faith fearing the future, but as Christians we should go through life with confidence that God holds the future and will protect and provide for His people.
The Bible says it is impossible
to serve God without faith. Knowing that we would struggle in hard times with faith, God says if
we have faith as small as a mustard seed, we will have the courage
and strength to handle any situation.
When our faith is weak, think of the disciples after the Crucifixion of Christ. They were afraid and grief-stricken, forgetting that Jesus told them their grief would soon turn to joy.
In John, Chapter 14, verse 27, Jesus promises: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Keep in mind we were created to love and serve God. Without faith it’s impossible to do either.
President Roosevelt’s words are as fitting today as they were many years ago.
