Dispose of gas tanks correctly

When you see a truck hauling smashed cars, do you ever wonder where the gas tank went that was on the car?
The gas tanks have to be removed from these vehicles, and many times they are thrown on the side of the road. This is an ongoing problem, and something really has to be done about having a place to deposit the used tanks.
There is a place that takes gas tanks, with some restrictions applying. All Scrap in Kenner located at 7 Veterans Highway will take gas tanks, but you have to cut them in half. This is dangerous because if they have gas in them they could explode.
If you decide to throw your gas tanks on the side of the road, read this first:
Under the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality Subtitle II Title 30 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes dumping of gas tanks is a felony and could cost you a $25,000 fine.
Please report anyone you see dumping gas tanks on the side of the road to the sheriff’s office. If you have any questions about littering please contact Lt. Wayne Norwood at 985 652 7058.
Note to readers: I am working on a column on the Works Project Administration that was put in place in the 1930s by President Franklin Roosevelt. If you or someone you know worked on this project or has any relevant information to share, please give me a call at 985-652-7058. This would mostly pertain to the sidewalks that were built in Edgard in the 1930s.
