LaPlace Rotary Club holds annual banquet

LAPLACE – On June 26, 2012 The Rotary Club of LaPlace held its annual Installation Banquet at Bull’s Corner restaurant in LaPlace to install its new officers and board of directors and to honor members of the club and the community for their achievements.
Cheryl Millet was inducted as the club’s 2012-13 President, along with President-Elect Eliana DeFrancesch, Vice President Beverly Harris, Treasurer Shawn Steinkamp, Secretary Regina Hickman, Sergeant at Arms Jude Gravois, board members Mary Lynn Altmont and Sheila Butler.
Beverly Harris was named 2011–12 Rotarian of the Year for the Rotary Club of LaPlace. Harris was recognized for her dedication to the club, participation in its activities and upholding the ideals of Rotary.
She is the wife of Dr. Henry Harris Sr. and is a retired educator from the St. John Parish School System. Presenting her award was club President Bill Ironside.
Larry Boudreaux was named the club’s 2011–12 “Delton Arceneaux Citizen of the Year.” The award is named in memory of long-time Rotarian Delton Arceneaux and is awarded to a local citizen who provides extraordinary support for local causes above and beyond what would normally be expected.
Boudreaux has been in the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years and in the Veterans of Foreign Wars for over five years. He has also helped cook the Survivor Dinner for Relay of Life in St.
John Parish since 2008. President Bill Ironside and club member Dean Torres presented the award.
Myranda Triche was presented the club’s 2011–12 “Stephanie Wilking Youth Leadership Award.” The award is named in memory of Stephanie “Nikki” Wilking and is awarded to a local high school student who exemplifies a strong character and has had a positive to impact in the community.
She is the daughter of Clarence Triche Jr. and Tangela Jochum. She is a senior at East St. John High and a member of the Interact Club. President Bill Ironside and club member Sandi Lambert presented the award.
The club presented Mike Tregre with an honorary Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of his dedication to his community and career. The fellowship is named after Paul Harris, who founded Rotary in 1903, and is considered the Rotary club’s highest honor. Past President Shawn Steinkamp presented the award.
