LAPLACE — LARAYO continued its mastery of the swimming pool Thursday night, moving to 4-0 this season and remaining atop the River Parishes Swim League standings with a 392-151 victory at home over Hill Heights.

LARAYO’s Emily Schexnayder, Kaile Levatino, Kelsie Williams, Cody Schafer, Austin Matherne and Maggie Trepagnier swept their individual events, each taking a trio of first place finishes.

Paige Williams captured first in two events.

Alex Schiff, Matthew Schexnayder, Carter Cortez, Noelle Remondet, Drew Schafer, Riley Weber, Alyssa Hooge, Ben Schiff, Kelly Campbell, Jacob Jensen and Meredith Keating rounded out the Barracudas’ winners.

LARAYO led 65-43 after the freestyle and pushed its advantage from there, leading 273-130 entering the relay events.

The Barracudas had a bye on Monday, with two swim meets left on its regular season schedule.

LARAYO coach Michelle Jensen said that the extra time will be used to make sure her swimmers, in particular those in the younger age groups, are ready for the stretch run — and eventually, the final Invitational championship meet.

“With a lot of the younger kids … some of them almost have it, but we just need to focus on making sure their swimming the strokes correctly so that they’ll be ready for the big meet at the end,” she said.

“We tried some kids out in different events (against Hill Heights). We’re seeing what our options are and who can score in different events. But mainly we’re working on tightening everything up, like making our turns faster, switching on relays, so that we’re ready for the final meet.”
