Obesity comes from lack fo self discipline

Regardless of the economic condition in America, we are still considered a rich nation. In Luke, chapter 12, verses 16–21, we learn of the rich fool who possessed many goods that would last many years. His thoughts in verse 19 were to take it easy and to eat, drink and be merry. God called him a fool because he laid up treasures for himself and was not rich toward God. Evidently, he lacked discipline in his life and was not balanced.

The Bible also says that an unstable man is double-minded. I certainly can relate to that for most of my life. I never had much discipline in my life until a few years ago. Some of my children and grandchildren have reaped what I sowed, which resulted in some unbalance in their lives.

The Bible also states that a man without discipline is like a city without walls. The enemy is free to attack and destroy what God intended to protect with self-discipline.

If you’re wondering where I’m going with this, I have to admit

I’m having trouble getting to the subject, which is obesity – the silent killer that is an epidemic in our country.

What’s the cause? Gluttony – one of the seven deadly sins, together with anger, envy, lust, pride, greed and slothfulness.

Since 1980, obesity rates have

doubled for adults and have more than tripled for children and teens. The sad news is that overeating is maybe the biggest threat to our health.

According to the medical profession, the obesity epidemic now will affect this overweight population later in medical costs for treatment of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, strokes and kidney disease.

It’s feared that the obesity rates today could see America become the first generation in U.S. history whose children have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.

Maybe it’s time we wake up!
