Tomatoes for sale

The Arc of St. Charles currently has tomatoes for sale. The tomatoes are grown in the greenhouse located on 13771 Old Spanish Trail in Boutte. The members will also be at the Farmer’s Market every Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. The tomatoes are currently $3 per pound. All proceeds benefit the participants of the Arc of St. Charles.

Coffee and Chat

Do you have a favorite book or author? Are you reading a book that you just can’t put down? Are you looking for the next great read?

If your answer is yes, be sure to check out the Adult Book Circle at the Central Library in LaPlace. The program is called “Coffee and Chat” and was created for adults who love to read and want to share what they are reading with other book lovers.

This program is a wonderful place to discover what other people are reading and a relaxed, fun and informative atmosphere for stimulating conversation and of course, a good cup of coffee. Summer camp

New Wine Kids on the Move Summer Camp located at 1929 W. Airline Highway, LaPlace, registration dates are as follows:

• Saturday, May 19 – 10 a.m.-noon

• Saturday, May 26 – 10 a.m.-noon

• Monday, May 28 – 1-4 p.m.

• Tuesday, May 29 – 1-4 p.m.

• Wednesday, May 30 – 1-4 p.m.

Gospel/Sports Fest

New Hope International of Vacherie, under the leadership of Pastor Claudette and Elder Elton Aubert presents it’s 2012 Gospel/

Bus ride

Lutcher Tailgaters Social Club is sponsoring a bus trip to the New Orleans Saints vs. Tampa Bay game on Oct. 21. Price per person will be $450, $225 due by June 15. This includes a game ticket and two-night stay, Oct. 19-20. Bus will leave out

St. Timothy’s garden

St. Timothy’s Community Garden is open for new gardeners. Raised boxes 4X8 cost $30 a year. Water is included in this fee. Contact Ruth Montgomery at 985-652-2983 for more information. 

Homes urgently needed

Caring families (with or without children) as well as single people are needed to provide food, a bed and a loving home for high school students from France, Norway and Germany. EMF high school students are between the ages of fifteen and eighteen have medical insurance, spending money for their personal expenses and expect to share their host family’s daily life including household responsibilities.

Donations needed

Keeshler Pittman of New Life Women’s Center is assisting with two endeavors. First, she is doing volunteer hair care services for shelters and in need of the following donations: shampoo, conditioner, perms, relaxers, color, setting lotion, other styling products and make-up. These donations should be labeled “Pittman Shelter Hair.”

Secondly, a free breakfast program in New Orleans that provides breakfast for low-income and homeless individuals. The following donations are needed for this endeavor: paper or plastic cups, paper or plastic plates with compartments, plastic utensils and juices that can be stored at room temperature. These donations should be labeled “Pittman/King” and brought to Bertha New Life Thrift Store located at 650 W. Fifth St., LaPlace.

Contributions for the hair care mission can be sent in care of Keeshler Pittman. Contributions for the free breakfast program should be sent in care of Lionel King to the following address, 261 Jules Ave., Suite 54, Jefferson, La 70121.  Gambling

River Parishes Addictive Disorders Clinic, 421 W. Airline Highway, Suite L, LaPlace, is offering gambling workshops for the public. The services include weekly gambling treatment groups, gambling assessments, referrals for inpatient treatment, family group and individual therapy sessions. For more information call 985-651-7064.

Spay/neuter program

The Riverlands SPCA is now offering one of southeast Louisiana’s lowest-cost spay/neuter programs. It is to help continue the effort to reduce the number of unwanted dogs, cats, puppies and kittens that end up in the southeast Louisiana shelters every day. The RSPCA encourages everyone to have their pets spayed or neutered. An aggressive spay/neuter program is the only way to stop the pet over population. For more information call 985-652-7722.

Senior exercise program

St. John Council on Aging holds exercise and lunch Monday through Friday, starting at 9:30 a.m. For all seniors. For lunch, call in a day before. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays there are bingo games after lunch and computer classes at 9:30 a.m., but you must register to attend. For more information call 985-479-0272.
