Respect an unborn life

Recently, the following bumper sticker got my attention: “U Can’t Be Pro-Choice and Catholic.” My belief goes a little deeper. According to the Bible, I don’t think you can be a Christian and be pro-choice.
Is this just my opinion? No, it’s based on God’s Word that explains when life begins. Psalm 139: 13-14 states, “For You have formed my inward parts; You have covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”
I believe that life begins at conception. Having seven great-grandchildren, I’ve become familiar with modern technology, for example, an ultrasound. I’m amazed how it shows pictures of the baby’s growth at different stages of life.
This morning, my granddaughter Monique, who is 5 1/2 months pregnant and expecting our eighth great-grandchild, texted Jeanne, telling her that Olivia Renee is now the size of a cantaloupe.
Monique has had three ultrasounds, and the doctor, at an early stage of her pregnancy, was able to tell that the newborn will be a girl. She and her husband Frank are very excited about the arrival of their first child, a result of answered prayers.
As they prepare the nursery, they talk about a living human being that is being wonderfully made by a loving God.
Growing up Catholic, I was always taught to respect life, including the unborn.
In 1973, the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of Roe vs. Wade legalized abortion. Today, it is legal, but that doesn’t make it right in the eyes of God.
