Roland “Babe” Lennix Sr., 76 and a native of LaPlace, passed away Sept. 26, 2012, at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Ill.

Roland was born Sept. 2, 1936, to the late Florence Victor and Harry Lennix Sr. He was the youngest of five children, with both parents and three siblings – Mary Marjorie Cheeks, Harry Lennix Jr. and Lowery Lennix Sr. – preceding him in death.

Roland accepted Christ at a young age and attended Our Lady of Grace Church in Reserve.

In 1959 he married Loyce Sorina of LaPlace, and shortly after that they moved to Chicago.

Soon after arriving in Chicago, Roland began working at the Continental Can Company. There he worked for over 30 years as a machinist, and he retired in 1987. Later, Roland married Lorraine Chisolm, who also preceded him in death.

Roland is survived by a sister, Evelyn Lennix Mitchell of El Paso, Texas; his three children: Roland Jr. and Adrienne, both of Chicago, and Jaytaun of Fayetteville, N.C.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A private memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, in Chicago.
