Although one’s GPA is a large factor in a student being admitted into National Honor Society, service and leadership are where the organization truly thrives. Plans for the school year begin in the summer when the Executive Council meets to discuss possible projects. Two of the projects that have remained since the chapter’s are the Peer Tutoring program that takes place during lunch and Spring Beautification Day when members do landscaping projects on campus. In addition, this will be the third year that NHS holds its Cinema on the Court event where SCC students are encouraged to bring their younger siblings to SCC on a Friday night to view a family movie. Other service projects have included working with Habitat for Humanity, assisting with Bingo at LaPlace du Bourg, and raising money through Love Lollies for AfterProm Party and for the Marie Ory

Each year, NHS holds its Induction in the fall; the former officers (now in college) return to install the new officers into their positions and current members induct the new members into the chapter. A short, informal dinner follows and members and their parents are able to enjoy each other’s company.
