HAHNVILLE – The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the murder of a Norco man who was shot to death by unknown assailants after he answered his door Saturday night.
Authorities said Jay Bertucci, 21, was at his residence at 231 St. Charles St., Apt. B6, in Norco, just after 11 p.m. when he heard a knock on his door. When Bertucci answered the door a man pointed a handgun at him. Bertucci attempted to grab the gun from the man, but the gunman fired, striking Bertucci in the chest. The gunman, who was accompanied by two other men, fled the scene on foot.
Witnesses described the suspects as three black males. Two the of the men wore black hooded sweatshirts, or hoodies, and one of them had a bandana covering his face.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes said investigators “strongly believe” the shooting was drug related but have not identified any suspects.
“We are following up on a few leads,” Yoes said. “We are seeking the public’s help, and there is a Crimestoppers reward for information.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Joseph Dewhirst at 985-783-1135 or 985-783-6807, or contact Crimestoppers at 1-877-903-STOP. Citizens do not have to give their name or testify and could receive up to $2,500.
