This year at the LaPlace Elementary Chess Club a young man by the name of Cameron Whittington completed The Knight’s Tour challenge. A knight’s tour is a sequence of moves of a knight on a chessboard such that the knight visits every square exactly once.

Whittington says he has been playing chess for two years and that he learned to play at the L.E.S. Chess Club. When asked why he likes to play Whittington said, “It is something that keeps my mind occupied and creative. I enjoy the mental challenge.”

When asked how long he had attempted to solve the puzzle he stated that he found the solution on his sixth attempt. He used the strategy of traveling around the board until he reached the middle, he said. Whittington said he practices chess at home with his brothers and his mom and he plays against a computer. Whittington hopes to become more advanced and win an official chess tournament.
