EDGARD — West St. John struggled out the gate this baseball season, but has netted wins in two of its past three games, all District 8-1A contests, its most recent victory by a 4-3 margin over White Castle at home Monday.

Da’Jon Taylor earned the win on the mound for WSJ, tossing a complete game. Lavonta Augusta drove in three runs, while Malik Hutchinson collected two hits.

The Rams also bested East Iberville last week, earning a 14-1 win over the Tigers.

Dontell Louper hit a grand slam to punctuate the victory. Anfernee Lumar earned two hits, and Taylor again earned the win on the mound through a solid five-inning performance.

The Rams suffered a hiccup Friday, falling to Ascension Catholic 12-2.

Lumar took the loss on the mound for WSJ. Augusta earned two hits at the plate.

West St. John coach Greg Joseph said it has been a mixed bag for the Rams this season, WSJ now 3-7 on the year.

“We don’t make routine plays consistently enough,” he said. “We committed six or seven errors against Ascension Catholic, and you can’t win like that.

“The fundamentals aren’t where they need to be. But at the same time, I can’t be disappointed in our kids. They go out and they give me 100 percent every time out. We’ve got some talented athletes, but it takes reps.”

Today, the Rams go on the road to face Ascension Christian (9-2) that’s won its last three district games.
