Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, Louisiana State Police Troop B will no longer issue Affidavits of Physical Inspection or trailer stamps at Troop B. All citizens needing this service must visit the Office of Motor Vehicles located at 100 Veterans Blvd., New Orleans. Physical inspections and trailer stamps will be issued at the Office of Motor Vehicles on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., excluding holidays. Anyone needing this paperwork should see the Louisiana State Trooper or Department of Public Safety Officer that is assigned to complete the inspections.
To have a physical inspection completed, you will need a copy of the title, registration or bill of sale, current proof of insurance on the vehicle and a valid U.S. driver’s license. To receive a trailer stamp, trailers must be homemade. You cannot disassemble other trailers or vehicles to make one trailer. You must obtain a permit to dismantle from the Office of Motor Vehicles to do this. If you have a manufactured trailer that was found or given to you with no VIN or an unreadable VIN, you must obtain a judgment of award either from a district judge or a justice of the peace allowing you to take possession of the trailer. If you purchased a trailer from either Lowes or Home Depot, you must have an Affidavit of Physical Inspection completed.
If you need other questions answered, please contact Troop B at 504-471-2775.
