The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Holiday Express Train – a festive freight train that offers Santa Claus alternative transportation each Christmas season – will roll into Laplace on Dec. 4, according to a press release by St John the Baptist Parish.

The six-car train got underway on its tour of the American South last week and will be in LaPlace on Wednesday. There are thousands of lights covering the train, but inside, each car is decorated from the ceiling to the floor.

Roads in Laplace will be closed to traffic and shut down at 2:00 p.m. to reopen at 10 p.m. Other roads affected by the closure include, the intersection of Hemlock and Parish Road, as well as the intersection of Parish Road and Percy Hebert Road.

As announced on its website, the locomotive will stop in Laplace at 4 p.m. Wednesday for tours and viewing.

The dazzling tradition will be complete  with – glowing lights, illuminated engine and railcars operated by CPKC railways – one of two several such trains on tour in North America in the runup to Christmas.

It is expected the road closure will cause traffic delays—as there will probably be many excited children (and adults) out touring the train.
