The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting where a teenager accidentally shot himself in the leg during an altercation at a Halloween event on Thursday.
The 17-year-old gunshot victim was found at 100 block of Dufresne Drive in Wallace, believed to have been involved in a fight with other people at the Halloween event when the mishap occurred.
Deputies were providing security for the Halloween event and were able to help the victim.
The sheriff’s office said deputies found a Glock 9 mm handgun and several spent casings; however, the victim was not cooperating so no other suspects have been identified at this time.
“It is unfortunate that during a Halloween family event individuals would bring a firearm and show complete disregard for the safety of the families enjoying the evening,” Sheriff Mike Tregre said in an issued statement. “We will continue to investigate even though, at this time, the alleged victim is uncooperative.”
There have been no arrests made in the incident.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 985-359-8771. Citizens can also call the St. John Sheriff’s Office TIPS line at 985-359-TIPS or submit at tip on the Sheriff’s Office website.
