Sometimes the simplest decisions are the best and most important.
Such is the case with Keep St. John Beautiful Committee’s 9th Annual Clean Sweep event, which will include a dedication to former District Attorney and Keep St. John Beautiful Leader Tom Daley.
The clean-up campaign lasts from 8:30 a.m. to noon April 11 at the recently dedicated Thomas F. Daley Memorial Park Hwy 51 Park in LaPlace.

Organizers said the April effort would create awareness for “Keep St. John Beautiful” Month, adding the event includes a morning kickoff, parishwide clean up, celebration of volunteerism and Daley dedication.
Daley, a licensed attorney for 36 years, was a long time public servant who worked as an assistant district attorney, district court judge and appellate court judge. He most recently served as district attorney of St. John Parish. He died Jan. 31.
In speaking about naming the park in Daley’s honor, St. John the Baptist Parish Councilman Michael Wright recently told L’OBSERVATEUR, “Tom was a true public servant who impacted the lives of so many people across this state. We felt this was fitting for Tom, as he was a monumental fixture in the Keep St. John Beautiful campaign.”
Clean Sweep Committee leaders said the April 11 effort would target major thoroughfares for cleaning.
However, residents, civic groups, school organizations and businesses are encouraged to clean areas in which they are located.
“Churches and neighborhood associations are also asked to pitch in with a focus on their neighborhoods,” a release from the organization said. “Interested participants are asked to register for the Spring Clean Sweep online at sjbparish.com or by calling Dana Milioto at 985-652-9569 to reserve your clean up location.”

Supplies and T-shirts will be available at 8:30 a.m. April 11 at Thomas F. Daley Memorial Park.
All participants are invited back to the park at 11:30 a.m. for free food, refreshments, music and a group photo in appreciation of the volunteer work.
Thank you Keep St. John Beautiful Committee for putting this event on, planning a celebration for those giving of their time and effort and, most importantly, honoring one the parish’s most dedicated residents.
