ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – In anticipation of the impending freezing temperatures, St. John Parish is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents. Starting from 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2024, the parish will inaugurate designated Warming Centers at two key locations:
- West Bank Public Safety Complex
- 5739 Highway 18
- Wallace, LA
- Garyville Fire Station #71
- 418 Historic West St.
- Garyville, LA
These Warming Centers are exclusively available for St. John residents. Equipped with cots, toiletries, and blankets, the centers aim to provide a refuge from the extreme cold conditions expected in the area, with wind chill temperatures plummeting into the teens.
While essential amenities will be provided, residents are encouraged to bring additional blankets, food, and snacks for added comfort during their stay.
The drop in temperatures is forecasted to commence on Monday night, and residents are reminded to take precautions to protect their pipes, plants, and ensure personal warmth. Additionally, a plea is made to look out for the well-being of pets and the elderly during this period.
To stay informed about weather updates and potential changes in shelter status, residents are urged to sign up for weather alerts. Simply text SJPWEATHER to 888-777. As weather conditions improve, the shelters may close
