I-55 southbound reopens, northbound remains closed following fatal multi-vehicle crash

It was announced in a post on the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) website this morning that I-55 southbound was anticipated to reopen at approximately 10 a.m. on Oct. 26, 2023, after Monday’s fatal multi-vehicle accident that killed 8 people and injured over 60 other people.
“The interstate will be reduced to one lane near the crash site for the time being,” said the DOTD.
DOTD consultants have officially determined that I-55 southbound is safe for travel after inspection, although inspections of I-55 northbound are ongoing
According to the DOTD, there is no timeline for when I-55 northbound will reopen.
