This Saturday is Election Day. For the first time in over 30 years, Sheriff Willy Martin’s name will not be on the voting machine. After three decades of public service, he has decided to retire. He has been a dedicated public servant who served well.
He served in a manner which pleased God and had the respect of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association and all the people of St. James Parish.
As he leaves office, he continues to want the best for St. James Parish. He has prepared Sid Berthelot who has served the people as long as he has.
I, like Sheriff Martin, would like the department to continue as it has for the past 30 years. By electing his Chief Deputy, the people will get the service they have become accustomed to.
I pray that Sheriff Martin will enjoy his retirement with his family and be excited to see the job that Sid Berthelot does, if elected.
The people of St. James Parish have been blessed over the years with some elected officials who have been sincere public servants.
May God continue to bless Sheriff Martin and his family and give Sid Berthelot wisdom with whatever the future holds.
