LAPLACE — Troy Favorite, 29, of LaPlace was arrested Saturday, September 16, 2023 in connection to a shooting that left a Reserve man injured.
On Friday, September 15, 2023, about 11:45 p.m., the SJSO received reports of a shooting and officers on patrol on West Airline Highway in LaPlace heard a gunshot in the area of New Orleans Original Daiquiris and immediately responded to the business’s parking lot.
Upon arrival, officers located a male, identified as Cornell Martin III, 24, of Reserve with a gunshot wound lying on the ground in the parking lot. Subsequently, officers learned the male suspect fled the scene on foot.
Emergency medical services arrived on scene to render aid. The victim was airlifted to a New Orleans hospital where he is in critical condition.
With the use of surveillance cameras, officers tracked an unknown male fitting the description of the suspect in the shooting at an apartment complex on Elm Street in LaPlace. With the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF), officers located at the complex clothing and a gun believed to belong to the suspect.
Shortly after, the SJSO received a 911 report of a male subject, pulling on door handles, attempting to enter an individual’s vehicle, at a stop sign in New Era subdivision in LaPlace. Subsequently, a tip from the community helped detectives identify the suspect in the shooting.
Through investigation and the use of surveillance cameras, officers located the suspect in the shooting as well as the attempted carjacking, identified as Favorite, at a local business where he was arrested.
During an interview with detectives, Favorite confessed to the shooting. Favorite stated to detectives that the motive for the shooting was that he “wanted to kill someone.”
Favorite was charged with disturbing the peace – appearing in an intoxicated condition (misd) and attempted second degree murder. He is being held in custody in lieu of a $175,250 bond.
In June 2022, Favorite was arrested for carjacking, serving 45 days in jail.
