LULING – St. Charles Parish officials gathered Thursday afternoon to celebrate the groundbreaking of the West Bank Spray Park.

“This investment is in line with our Recreation Master Plan and compliments the other amenities located at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center,” President Matthew Jewell said. “I look forward to the day we can officially open the West Bank Spray Park.”

The St. Charles Parish Council approved the West Bank Spray Park construction on July 10. The project will consist of a 4,635-square-foot swamp-themed spray park, including more than 25 water features, six shade sails and 12 benches.

In addition to the spray park, there will be an outdoor restroom facility, an 85-space parking lot with additional handicap spots and a cement pathway connecting the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center to the Veterans Memorial Plaza and West Bank Spray Park.

“It is always a great day to begin construction on a long-awaited amenity like the West Bank Spray Park,” Director Duane Foret said. “We are thrilled to be able to provide our residents a new community gathering place for leisure activities that get the whole family involved.”

TEH Enterprise, LLC was awarded the contract with a low bid of $2.2 million. State treasury funds and a donation from the 29^th Judicial Community Benefit Fund will cover approximately 75% of the cost of the West Bank Spray Park, with the remaining cost from the Recreation Fund.

The West Bank Spray Park construction will take approximately eight months, with operations beginning in Summer 2024.
