EDGARD — Parents, students and community members were invited to meet the staff of West St. John High School and West St. John Elementary School during this week’s Back to School Bash. WSJH Principal Rayven Calloway and WSJE Principal Chantell Walker collaborated with a shared vision to “BUILD A BETTER WESTBANK” for all of the scholars.
Children enjoyed raffles, food, games, and a surprise visit from the Mardi Gras Indians. Calloway said the event would not have been possible without the support of sponsors including St. John Parish President Jaclyn Hotard, Greenfield, the WSJH Alumni Association and Shane Bailey. Pastor Steve Allen of Destiny Christian Center donated school uniforms.
Walker said the event was received well by the community, evident by the attendance and the participation in the events.
“Our goal for the night was to have our parents, scholars, teachers and community stakeholders to meet the faculty/staff of both schools for a family fun night before school started. Students were able to sign up for clubs and receive information about both schools,” Walker said. “Our motto is: ‘Working together to build a brighter future for all scholars’. To do this we need school administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students and community members to work together to support one another so that all of our students are successful.”
