LAPLACE — An assignment was finalized Monday naming Waste Pro as the new garbage collector for St. John the Baptist Parish, filling the role previously held by Metro Service Group.
Routes will remain the same, and residents will not incur any additional costs for services.
The assignment is effective immediately, according to Parish President Jaclyn Hotard. Both Metro and Waste Pro are collecting this week, and Waste Pro will be operating at full capacity by Monday, August 14.
Hotard has worked behind the scenes with Metro for months to facilitate a transition. She said the process was particularly challenging and lengthy due to current considerations and bankruptcy provisions.
“My priority has always been to ensure that you receive quality garbage service on time and as expected. This process took much longer than I would have liked, but I am happy to finally announce that my efforts have resulted in a win for the residents of St. John the Baptist Parish,” Hotard said.
Hotard shared that Waste Pro is no stranger to St. John Parish. The company supplemented Metro’s resources to assist with storm recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida and presently employs many St. John Parish residents.
“I am confident this change will deliver the highest-level of residential garbage collection in St. John, and all collection days will remain the same. I want to thank Metro Service Group for their service to St. John and look forward to working with Waste Pro,” Hotard said.
