Sheriff Greg Champagne announces an arrest in the armed robbery of Subway Restaurant in Destrehan, LA.
On Sunday, July 16, just after 9:30 a.m., deputies with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an armed robbery at the Subway Restaurant at 1955 Ormond Boulevard in Destrehan, LA.
The victim, a female employee, stated she was preparing to open the store. When she unlocked the front door to the business, a male entered the store and showed her a handgun. The male threatened the victim and demanded money. He took money from the cash register, a coin box, and the victim’s cell phone. The victim saw the male leave the store and throw her cell phone in the parking lot. He entered a white van with a Comfort Inn logo and left the parking lot.
During the initial investigation, detectives learned the white van had been stolen during the overnight hours of July 15-16 from the Comfort Inn in St. Rose, LA.
Video evidence obtained from the store showed a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, white tennis shoes, and a black mask entering the store. He immediately walked behind the counter and pointed a silver handgun at the victim. He then walked to the register and took all the money along with a green pouch that was located on a shelf under the register. He is then observed taking the victim’s cell phone off the counter before exiting the store.
The van was found abandoned just after 11 a.m. on July 16, in the wooded area at the back of Fourth Street in St. Rose, LA.
Through further investigation, detectives were able to identify and obtain sufficient probable cause to secure an arrest warrant for the armed robbery suspect identified as Ryan Demon Landry, a 26-year-old male from St. Rose, LA.
Landry was charged with Armed Robbery. He was booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center.
Sheriff Champagne said, “I want to thank the deputies and detectives who tirelessly investigated this crime.”
