Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

Marrero – On July 12, 2023, shortly before 8:00 a.m. Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 3134 (Leo Kerner Highway) near Destrehan Avenue in Jefferson Parish. The crash claimed the life of 26-year-old Chrissean Charles of Barataria.
The initial investigation revealed that Charles was driving a 2016 Nissan Sentra north on Leo Kerner Highway near Destrehan Avenue. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan traveled off the right side of the roadway and impacted a tree.
Charles was not restrained at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment on the part of Charles is unknown and routine toxicology results are pending.
