Labarre – Tuesday afternoon, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a three-vehicle crash on LA 1 near Deaton Lane in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the lives of 28-year-old Kymber Nezat of Baton Rouge and 82-year-old Albert Bordelon of Plaucheville.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2019 Mercedes Benz Sprinter driven by Nezat and serving as an Acadian Ambulance ground unit was traveling north on LA 1 behind a 2012 Nissan Altima. At the same time, a 2009 Kenworth tractor trailer was headed south on LA 1. For reasons still being investigated, the Sprinter struck the rear end of the Altima, crossed the centerline, entered the southbound lane, and struck the tractor trailer head-on.
Despite being properly restrained, both Nezat and Bordelon (who was being transported) succumbed to their injuries at the scene. A second rear passenger of the Sprinter was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries from the crash. The occupants of the Kenworth and Altima were properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries in the crash. A standard toxicology sample was collected from all drivers and will be submitted for scientific analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorist to always make good decisions while operating motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted. Always ensure every occupant is properly restrained and follow all traffic laws. Taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death. Please speak to your loved ones about the importance of safe decisions while driving.
